| - 3 - BY.1/G.21.4.39. WRAITH. MODIFICATIONS. Referring to the modifications, which it was agreed should be carried out on 'A' and 'B' series, the position is that the Works have modified 49 chassis in 'A' series and 95 chassis in 'B' series, leaving 51 chassis in 'A' series and 5 chassis in 'B' series to be done. The work is steadily proceeding. ENGINE VIBRATIONS. The position in regard to introducing increased flexibility into the accessory drive is still as outlined in our last Agenda as follows :- (a). Rubber blocks of considerably increased diameter, with the object of increasing deflection. (b). The Metalastik coupling has been designed and produced, and is being tested on 8.B.5, also the test bed unit is fitted with one of these, and they appear to be the proper solution of the difficulty, as they give very much increased elasticity which we hope will enable us to return to the light cam wheel, which in turn would avoid rattles which have been complained of by the Test Department since the inertia of the wheel was increased. One further point, however, has been cleared up viz. that the modified form of Bakelite material which was introduced early in Wraith production, and differs from the original material by having much finer woven fabric used in the building up of the disc, has considerably reduced the wear and has enabled us to consider reverting to the light form of wheel for the next series 'D', even if we have not sufficient experience to adopt either of the points referred to under headings (a) and (b). | ||
