re. HARTFORD SHOCK ABSORBERS. H4426

Trouble has been experienced in adjusting the above after they have been in service for some time, due to what would appear to be the rusting up of the thread It has been found that when an attempt has been made to turn the adjusting nut to increase or reduce the friction that the locking pin( to avoid the bolt turning round) has sheared, and it is practically impossible to make further adjustment without completely dismantling the shock absorber and refitting a fresh bolt.

We suggest that recommendations should be made immediately for this Bolt to have a hexagon finished head so that it can be held with a spanner while being adjusted in case of trouble as above explained.

A recent case of complaint was found to be due to the trouble above explained, the driver having made adjustments to the shock absorbers and was not aware that the friction was not being increased, due to the bolt turning round as above explained.
