Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Mths.{Reg Matthews}2/LH.{Mr Haworth} + 1020a 18th. October 1937. Messrs. Leyland Motors Ltd., Leyland, Lancs. For the attention of Mr.H.Spurrier. Dear Sirs, Further to our letter of the 15th. inst. we regret to state that we shall be unable to let you have all the connecting rods immediately. We found on the last operation one or two small blow holes in several of the bearings, and are left with only six good sets. We are despatching the six to-day and are putting in hand further sets of bearings immediately in order to complete the job as early as possible. We trust you will not be greatly inconvenienced by the delay, and hope that the six rods will at least enable you to make preliminary tests. There is one point we should like to raise with you, on your original drawing supplied to us, 131286.1. the bearing shown has an oil supply hole in rod half of the bearing. We notice that the rod has no oil supply up the centre to the Gudgeon pin, and later drawings received by us, 157442/3, show the oil hole deleted. We should like to know whether you require this oil hole or not, actually the bearings that are to be despatched to-day will have the hole since we had drilled them before receiving your later prints; on subsequent bearings shall we continue to drill the hole or not ? Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD | ||
