R.{Sir Henry Royce} We frequently get requests from customers for our opinion on the advisability of using the above tyres, and we should be glad if you would give us some guidance as to how we should reply. You may remember that we recently made a test of these tyres, which were favourably reported on by Mr Haldenby on 16.1.14. On 2.2.14 Mr Royce stated that he thought the use of over-size tyres for 895 wheels would be a valuable improvment to our car, and it was afterwards suggested that we might consider these tyres as a possible new standard. With this in view the Michelin Tyre Company and the Dunlop Rubber Company were written to ascertain whether they would supply these tyres. Both these firms replied that they could not recommend these tyres, the argument being, in brief, that these tyres were at best only of value to a car which was over the correct weight for the existing tyres, and the owner did not wish to go to the expence of rebuilding the wheel, but in the case of a new car it should be designed for the correct standard tyre which was more economical [Watermark text: DICKINSON MADE AT] | ||
