TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM AJS. Copy to ed.{J. L. Edwards} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 48500 AJS3/M18.11.25. INDIA FOOTBOARDS. We understand from DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} that the India gearbox fouls the floorboards adjacent to its front top cover. We therefore send you drawing LeC.2170., shewing how an amount of approximately .425 can be gained by making the cover as shewn on this drawing and machining .125 from the top of the facing. We have shewn a hole in the middle of the cover which we do not require ourselves, but thought it may be found necessary for clamping down purposes while milling the face outside the stiffening rib. A Web has been added inside to make up for the loss due to reducing the facing, but we would ask HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to make certain that the reduced facing without this web will not unduly weaken the box, in order to utilise those castings in existence.
