re. 144-MS. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Sheldrake Esq.

Further to our EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}4/Hl.5.33., after running the car Mr. Sheldrake again complained with regard to spitting in the silencer.

By arrangement with Messrs. Rippon Bros. we sent our tester up to go further into the matter.

After dismantling the carburetter throttle butterfly, he was able to make a slight improvement in the bedding, and after a long test, the chauffeur, to whom Mr. Sheldrake leaves all matters concerned with the car, expressed the view that considerable improvement had been effected.
There was no spitting in the silencer when running with throttle closed down hill, although there was a slight sneeze occasionally on the level when opening the throttle.

The chauffeur informed Mr. Sheldrake of this who told our tester that providing we consider this to be up to R-R standard, and that the improvement was maintained, he would be satisfied.

Mr. Oliver was at Rippons yesterday on another job and saw Mr. Sheldrake's chauffeur, who informed him that so far the improvement had been maintained.

With regard to the spilling of petrol from the petrol tank filler cap - Mr. Sheldrake informed our tester that the Company had written him advising him that a new filler cap was at present under consideration, and would be applied to his car when available. We have not sent this letter, presumably it has been dealt with by another Department. Will you please follow this up and see that it is done as, knowing Mr. Sheldrake as we do, we are sure he will not permit this matter to drop.
