The development status and required modifications for B.60 and B.80 engines.

Chassis Programme.
Engine Section.

With reference to the attached memos. to HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} to complete the instructions to the shop for these development units, the position at present is :-

For B.60 - 6 Cylinder :- As the latest Ripplet specification except for the differences affecting the bore, and the fact that for 2 engines we shall have a Humber damper.

For B.80 - 8 Cylinder :- As laid down in By/CS.1/EH.5.7.39. and By/CS.5/B.18.7.39. with constitutes a complete specif-ication forthe "Alum 8".

Further to the above, there are certain details which we would like to include in these engines, drawings for which are required.

Crankshaft 2.75 Journals. Detail drawings required incorpor-ating machining dimensions for the nose to suit Humber and Studebaker dampers.

Flywheel to suit Lucas starter motor.

Crankcase. Modification to prevent valve springs fouling cylinder block.

Front end to suit single belt scheme.

Modification to take Std. Vandervell thrust washer.

Provision for new counter drive.

Camshaft. Lubrication of distributor drive by hole through camshaft.

Con. Rods. Alteration required to adapt standard thickness of Vandervell material for our big end bearings.
