Dear Sirs, Starter Batteries. We have heard from our Australian representative of two instances in the Melbourne district, where Rolls-Royce users have complained of acid leaking from the vent plugs of the Exide batteries on your cars. The owners in question are Mr. Thompson and Mr. San, but we have not the chassis numbers. Our service agent in Melbourne rendered quick service in endeavouring to overcome the trouble. In Mr. Thompson's case the report was to the effect that the battery behaved in an extraordinary manner, forcing the electrolyte through the filling vent plug and in several instances bursting the sealing compound. In Mr. San's case the allegation was that the acid leaked from the vent plugs, causing the box to rot. A new box was fitted, but the acid still leaked from the vent plugs as much as ever. Our local representative reports that examination of the battery failed to find anything wrong with it in manufacture or design, but that there was excessive gassing when charging at the normal rate of 7 amperes. Our representative stated further that the plates appeared to be in good condition. For several years now we have used vent plugs in accordance with sample which is being sent to you under separate cover. This, in our opinion, is the best design of plug on the market. Every plug is very carefully tested before it is | ||
