(5) Braking Gear.

It appeared that this job is rather tied up with independent springing at present and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} asked that it be separated so that the brake gear question will not be delayed by springing problems.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} will look into this.

(6) Independent Front Wheel Suspension.

Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} suggested that two cars would be sufficient to deal with experimental work on independent suspension and that other chassis be built up with normal springing.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} pressed for 3 cars and this was agreed to as by this means time will be saved in obtaining results.

Alteration to specification after issue.

HHC. mentioned that specifications and instructions are frequently modified after issue and this causes delays in obtaining results due to jobs having to be held up.

If this could be avoided much loss of time would be saved, and it would be much easier to keep to promised dates.

Frames for Normal Springing.

Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} enquired how this job stood and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said that the instructions are not yet ready for issue.

It was decided not to attempt to apply the J.III. front axle as a half-way scheme but to proceed only with the correct design which is likely to be the final one.

Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said he would see to it that there would be no delay on this account and that he would arrange to have an axle ready by the time the frames are delivered, even if it meant making from hand forgings.

Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} asked E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} to supply him with a list of the major parts for this scheme together with the dates of issue so that he may personally watch their progress. Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} will provide this list.
