BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} x 7910. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.1/WJ.18.2.30. EXHAUST HEATED INDUCTION BEND. PHANTOM II. On examination of the detail drawings of E.80194, (Feed Pipe) and E.80010 (Jacketed Bend) we find that the limits on the feed pipe and bend are too large to permit of a 100% "smoke test proof" joint at the point where the feed pipe fits into the bend. In order to obtain a satisfactory job we found it necessary on our Experimental cars to work to considerably finer limits. The hole in the bend E.80010 should be "Ream .750 + ¼" and the feed pipe .7495 - ¼"(ground), giving a clearance of from .0005 to .0015. The extra work entailed will be repaid by saving of scrap in the Test Dept., which will be unavoidable if the present limits are used. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. | ||
