BRANCHES: LONDON LEEDS MANCHESTER CARDIFF BIRMINGHAM BELFAST GLASGOW JOHANNESBURG Messrs Rolls-Royce, Ltd., DERBY. File For the attention of Mr.Martindale. Dear Sirs, We are in receipt of your letter of the 1st inst., in connection with moulded 'Gaco' Bushes, your Part No.GW.1372. We note your remarks but can only state that, in view of the fact that you did not consult us as regards the most satisfactory form and hardness for these 'Gaco' Bushes, and up to the present we have received no layout drawings or any particulars as to the use of these Bushes, you have hardly given our material a fair trial. We note that you mention that one of the causes of failure, was that the 'Gaco' Bushes were too hard, that is, 85 Shore Durometer reading. We are able to mould 'Gaco' in any hardness from 35 to 90 Shore Durometer reading and, therefore, this difficulty could be overcome without any trouble. As regards your remarks that one of the Bushes was badly moulded and had a plane of weakness, we should have been pleased to replace this free of charge, if you had returned it to us for inspection, and will still do so, if required. If you refer to our letter of the 16th April 1937, you will find that our price of 1/6d each for the six experimental Buffers, was charged owing to the fact that we agreed to supply these samples machined in 'Gaco' vulcanized sheet, in order to save you the cost of a steel Mould. This is rather a costly process, which involves a considerable amount of labour, and the price for moulded Bushes could be reduced to a great extent if | ||
