RE HAND BRAKE EQUALISING SHAFT FOR AMERICAN CHASSIS. 15 DEC 1919 X.3614

We send you herewith drawing Lec.1169 shewing the above.

The footbrake equalising shaft remains unaltered, but this same mechanism for the hand brake has been moved to a position about 8 1/2" behind the cross member which supports the rear of the change speed box and the torque tube sphere.

The differential casing on this new mechanism is made of steel and of smaller dimensions than the aluminium standard one retained for the foot brake shaft.

To directly resist the pull of the rod coming from the hand lever a link has been arranged between the brake shaft and one of the torque sphere brackets. This link is shewn in elevation and also in the combined end view and plan below on the drawing.

Would you kindly put in hand the necessary detail work to this scheme.

We are preparing at Wittering, a general arrangement dealing with the new work on the after part of the American chassis, and shewing the new gear box and starter. We shall send this to you in due course.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
