RHC {R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} 15/BE. 4.12.25.

With reference to Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 3/M. 26.11.25. in which he mentions the Front Brake Differential mounted on Clutch Casing. These parts were prepared and fitted to the Engine Units which were built for the -EAC.II Chassis we had in hand round about June 1924. This was before the New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I was put into Production.

You will no doubt remember EAC.II had 1" wider Frame, Rear Axle with 1" wider track and New Front Axle with the Short Brake Operating Lever on either side.etc.etc., Whilst one Chassis was completed it was never placed on test because we received instructions that these Chassis were to be cancelled, so Chassis in progress were therefore dismantled.

There were several faults with this type of differential which were never dealt with owing to the circumstances mentioned, and if it is intended to go forward with these it will be necessary to increase the centres of Brake Operating Levers on differential and also Brake Operating Levers on Front Axle in order to clear the Crankcase owing to Brake Ropes fouling - particularly Near Side. The Brake Rope fouled Oil Pump Housing so badly that with car on the Bump Brake Rope would be picked up and Brake applied. In addition, if Flywheel Starter Motor was used we believe this would also foul Brake Rope.

In view of the instructions received at that time for the cancelling of the Chassis most of the material was disposed of including Front Axle Forgings which were obtained specially for EAC.II.
