Mr. Underwood, A.I.D. c. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. WST r6000. BY3/W.19.5.36. "KESTREL" ENGINES IN HANDLEY PAGE MACHINES. RE :- SPARKING PLUGS. Referring to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/RDO.12./MH.{M. Huckerby}15.5.36, it would appear from our Tester Bates' report from Radlett Aerodrome, dated 14.5.36, that on the "Kestrel" V and VI type engines with 5 1/2 lbs/sq." boost used when taking off, that the K.L.G. V7/3B. Sparking Plug is not up to this duty, but apparently Lodge A.5B. will meet the conditions, and as this latter plug is type tested and passed for use, we recommend for use in the "Kestrel" V and VI Handley Page machines, that Lodge A.5B. Plugs be standardised for use. You will recollect that our Tester Bates reported that seven K.L.G. Plugs were found to be faulty due to the mica being badly burnt and cracked as a result of the excessive heat to which the plug was submitted. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
