Seen HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4219 GOSHAWK 11. With reference to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/LG25.4.22, the following is the condition of the points which affect my department:- BRAKES. We shall be sending through in the course of a day or two some proposals for damping devices on the drums. We also propose to lay out a steel brake shoe so that if the aluminium shoes used are definitely decided to be unsatisfactory we could fall back on the steel ones (instead of on aluminium bronze castings) which do not seem to be unnecessarily heavy. STEERING. We have dealt with the question of the plain thrust on N. sch. 1260. SPRING SHACKLES. In the course of a day or two we shall be sending drawings giving the increased area and also some experimental proposals for baffling the water etc away from the actual bearing surfaces. SHOCK ABSORBERS. We have dealt with the proposed modified connecting rod on N. sch. 1261. CARBURETTER CONTROLS. We shall send a scheme, probably on Monday, shewing the very slight alterations that are necessary to bring the controls at right angles to the instrument board. SIDE STEERING TUBE. Since we understand that a conclusion has been arrived at experimentally on what is wanted for the side steering tube we will send a scheme shewing the slight necessary modifications, immediately. ROAD SPRINGS. We have suggested that a thinner top leaf should be used and apart from this we think that it is very much to be preferred that Woodheads should both design and make the springs.
