To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. RG.{Mr Rowledge} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} V4247 S E C R E T. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. E1/M16.1.24. X.9940 X.3528 X.9770. X.4247. RE. PROG RESS AT WW. We are sorry to have appeared neglectful of sending proposals of what shall be done from WW. The reason is that we have been working at high pressure on the schemes immediately required by Derby on which we had your views and instructions. After your departure great pressure was brought to bear on us to supply as soon as possible the remaining drawings for EAC. particularly for EAC.11. We were of course engaged on this work, but concentrating on EAC.1V. as we were under the impression that EAC.11. was not to be built. We have given, at Mr. Johnson's request, a date for the completion of each item required. To enable these promises to be kept we have not hesitated to work overtime. The great necessity for completing EAC.11. instructions has therefore hitherto not left much time for the consideration of the more original work on EAC.1V. We attach herewith (SEE ORIGINAL) a report shewing what progress has been made on EAC. work. re. EAC. NOMENCLATURE. It should be made clear that Derby has added to the list of EAC. numbers to avoid confusing new instructions with old, and because they are building chassis to the old instructions as well as the new. The list of EAC. numbers with their signification briefly stated as understood by Derby is now as follows :- EAC.1. As originally designed with engine mounted on under-frame. Separate 3-speed gearbox and open propeller shaft. EAC.2. As originally conceived with new engine and clutch mounted a la{L. A. Archer} Goshawk, 40/50 gearbox and starter, and 40/50 chassis altered for semi-servo 4 wheel brakes. EAC.3. 40/50 chassis altered for semi-servo 4 wheel brakes. EAC4. Our revised EAC.2. e.g. Engine and 4 speed gearbox as a unit mounted a la{L. A. Archer} Goshawk, standard 40/50 back axle and 4 wheel brakes operated by slow speed servo. contd:- | ||
