BENTLEY CARS - CHASSIS NO. B.105-AE. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} LUMB.

Referring to your memo Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SB.{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}9/HR.5.12.34. which in turn deals with the position raised in the Kingsbury Depot report on the chassis, I had remarked upon this to the Experimental Department, that it appeared to me the whole cause of the trouble was the customer using his starting carburetter much too freely and creating his own difficulties. Having cleared the trouble up once by replacing the pistons I do not consider that we should again bear the cost of putting the matter right. The justification of adopting this attitude is that we have hundreds of Bentley cars in operation and only one other case of piston seizure, and therefore to have two instances on one car certainly does indicate mis-use of the starting facilities as being the cause of the trouble.
