X995 To B.J. From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG13.10.30. X.1583. RE WAKEFIELDS CASTROL "R" OIL. X.995! With reference to the returned standardisation sheet (attached). This is the oil which Mr. Royce and we have by experience found it to be the best lubricant. Up to the present it is not mentioned in our chassis Instruction Book but when the standardisation sheets are completed, it is our intention to recommend this oil, as well as Prices'. A note will be added in the Instruction Book to say that we consider Castrol "R" Oil is the best lubricant but in cases where customers object either to the cost or the smell, Prices' oil could be used. In our memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG22.7.20, copy to PN.{Mr Northey} we asked Pn.{Mr Northey} to try Wakefields Castrol Oil on the trials cars because we were contemplating standardising it. We have not heard whether they have tested it or not. Our opinion is that the smell is not objectionable. If R.R. cars were in the habit of belching out smoke from the exhaust, there might be an objectionable smell. We may, of course, not be very good judges because at the works we live in a atmosphere of Castrol oil. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
