666. A.R.M. Please deal with this CHATEAUROUX.I/ 14.7.39. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 30.G.7. Bonnet Knocks. Thank you for your memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/R.{Sir Henry Royce} II.7.39. We have already cured the bonnet knocks by means of diagonal stays between the dash and the top of the radiator. With no stay at all as before, the radiator could be moved to and left in any position, the only limit to its movement being the rear edges of the bonnet coming against the scuttle, hence the knocks. The top now remains stationary but the bottom of the radiator and the wings shake sideways. We want to try a rubber mounting which will allow torsional movement of the frame relative to the radiator, but will not permit side shake. Martindale had some sample Metalastik rubber mount-ings one of which might serve the purpose. Will you please send out something suitable. In the meanwhile we will continue to run with the stays as they are. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} Juwatter | ||
