COPY. ACCIDENT REPORT. 7.2.33. Accident occurred at La{L. A. Archer} Crouzille between Limoges and Argenton at approx. 7.15 p.m. Two cars approaching with headlights on (I also had mine on) - the approaching cars dimmed. Unfortunately a few miles back, previous to the accident, my dimming switch went wrong, and therefore it was necessary that I switched my headlights completely out, I did this and at the same time applied my brakes bringing the speed of the car down to approx. 15 m.p.h. It was not until the first car had passed that I realised that there was a cyclist in front of me, I could not swerve owing to the approach of the second car, but applied my brakes heavily locking all four wheels; as the road was very wet the car skidded up to the cyclist, jamming his rear wheel between the O.S. dumb iron and wing, smashing the machine (which had no apparent rear reflector). The cyclist was uninjured and my car was not damaged one little bit. The impact was of a 'pushing' nature, and not 'running'. The car pulled up within approx. 4 ft. The cyclist stated at the time that he was not injured. There were no witnesses of the accident. J.C.Bowering. | ||
