Contact Breaker. This should have a gap of .010" when the rocking lever is on the top portion of the cam. If the points are found pitted, they should be filed square.

Oil Filter. If any trouble is experienced with the oil pressure it will most probably be found that the oil filter has become fouled up. To remove the oil filter it is first necessary to take off the undershield. All the oil should then be drained from the crankcase by means of a plug which will be found in the bottom of the crankcase. A ring of nuts will be found on the bottom of the bottom-half crankcase, these should be undone and the filter will come out with the bottom plate.

Oil Relief Valve. In the case of oil pressure trouble which is not found due to the filter, the relief valve should be examined. This is situated in the bottom cover of the oil pump. There is no adjustment for the spring, the only means of adjustment being to pack the spring by means of washers. This valve should be taken out and cleaned and examined to see that it is working freely.

Petrol Filter. There is a petrol filter situated on the float chamber. If there are any symptoms of shortage of petrol, this should be cleaned out. There is also another petrol filter situated in the rear tank which can be taken out by means of a plate on the top of the tank. It is not anticipated that there will be any trouble here.

Adjustment of steering joints. If any play develops in the cross steering rod or the front end of the side steering rod, these joints should be adjusted. The method is to first remove the leather covers. The small bolts which will be found clipping the joint should then be slacked off. It is sufficient if only the one which is close to the adjusting screw is slacked. The adjusting screw is in the end of the joint. To tighten the joint up, the screw must be turned outward which is the opposite way to the usual adjustment of the 40/50 H.P.

Adjustment of shock absorber ball and connections. These are identical to the cross steering joints and should be adjusted in a similar way.
