Contd. -2- EFC1/T31.7.20. (2) Mr. Royce says that he would like the paragraphs on dynamo brushes and motor brushes on pp.16, 17, 19 & 20 respectively, to be re-written, as the starter brushes should last a life-time and the dynamo brushes should run for hundreds of hours. We are afraid we cannot see in what way to alter these paragraphs, as at the moment they appear to us to exactly take into account the features which Mr. Royce mentions in his note. The only alteration we can suggest is replacing the sentence - "In time the brushes were down and it becomes necessary to re-set the spring pressure" on p.16 with :- "In the course of time the brushes may wear down, making it necessary to re-set the spring pressure". In the case of the paragraph for motor brushes, we do not see how this can be improved. On p.23 we propose to replace the present heavy type "Charging Rules" by the following :- "When charging battery from an external source, do not allow the current to exceed 8 amperes and be certain that it is passing in the right direction". (3) We propose that after "Working Rules" instructions re cleanliness of the battery should read :- "Keep the top of the battery scrupulously free from acid, dirt, and all foreign substances". Contd.
