Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter of July 13th we would say that the pair of lamps to which you refer were fitted with the more powerful Dipper unit and stronger reflector return spring.

Actually in this case a force of 20 ozs. was necessary to move the reflector from its stop as compared with 16 ozs on your original samples. Although we had hoped that this increase would be sufficient to meet your requirements, - we explained to your Mr Waller, when he took delivery of the lamps, that we had not had an opportunity of testing them on the road and that if he experienced trouble with the reflectors fluttering it would be of mutual assistance if he would progressively increase the strength of the existing spring by shortening it until the symptoms disappeared.

As you well know we are a little limited with the power of the Dipper unit and we thought that the latest model with the conical air gap would be able to operate against a
