48992 TO BJ FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} SECRET. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M20. 7.25. Copy to - H.S. re. CHASSIS 7-EX. FOR R.{Sir Henry Royce} We thank you for your BJ20/H9725. concerning the chassis which we wish to send to the coachbuilders to enable us to complete the all-weather body for Mr. Royce. We wish to assure you that we thoroughly appreciate the need for the greatest secrecy possible in connection with all matters of new design, however small. We shall therefore take every precaution to prevent the spreading of further rumours. The chassis will be a standard one Phantom fitted with a standard 'W' series radiator, bonnet, and dash. The chassis will have brackets for the support of the subframe, and will have special side levers which will be removed immediately the car arrives at the coachbuilders. This precaution has already been taken on 9-PK. Apart from these features there will be no departure from our standard product, as all the special features which will eventually be fitted to this car will be removed and replaced by standard ones. We have also had all the labels removed from the body while it is going through Barkers shops, and fresh labels will be attached having a fictitious name. Barkers will be ready for the chassis in about a fortnight, and once they receive it we will endeavour to get the job away as quickly as possible, although as will be seen from our previous remarks there will be nothing to cause any danger.
