Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} X7320. Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}4/T2.2.31. LEFT HAND CHASSIS - CHANGE SPEED MECHANISM We are experiencing trouble on chassis on test with rusting and seizing up of the change speed mechanism. This has occurred on three chassis to date. The parts affected are the reverse plunger mechanism G77706 Rod. G77682 Plunger. G77716 Change speed lever tube. I am assured by Mr Norman who is responsible for erecting these parts, that they were treated with lanolised oil on assembly. It would appear that we are experiencing condensation trouble in the change speed mechanism tower. Incidentally, as a result of having to dismantle these parts, I must bring to your notice the danger of Plunger G77682 being dropped into the gear box when dismantling change speed lever by anyone not familiar with the parts.
