20 H.P. Car for
Demonstration School.

I have just returned from my holidays. Please let me know, with reference to KJP1/H18.8.23:-

1. Who has arranged for a 20 h.p. car to be allotted for school use, and when you expect it to be ready.

2. Will it be an up-to-date chassis.

We find it better policy that a chassis shall be rather out of date than that it shall be quite up to date or have any experimental parts on which have only just been standardised. We feel that it is not in our interests for drivers to return to their masters with the information that the new car which is being delivered to the master is already out of date and that the car which is being used in the school has several improvements fitted to it. This is disappointing to the customer. It is not so disappointing to the customer to hear that his driver has received instruction on a car which is a little out of date, whereas the new car which is being delivered to him is more up to date.

Please keep this in mind.

3. With regard to your suggestion that the experimental 20 h.p. car should be retained for use in the school as an emergency car, please let me know what Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} says to this proposition. Has it been definitely transferred from the Experimental Department to the school, and has Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} agreed to this?

Is this car 2-G-2?

Provided that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} sees no objection, we agree that 2-G-2 can be transferred to the school for emergency driving instruction, but the pupils who use it should be informed that it is a somewhat out of date model.
