BRAKES Brake Shafts seize up. Several rear brake shafts have seized although fitted with separate oil feed to each shaft. It is considered that the weakness of this scheme is owing to the fact that the outer bearings can still be starved if shafts are not properly primed initially. The latest modification of oil feed pipe to each bearing has not yet been applied, it is due on production commencing S2 Series. Brakes squeak. Front and Rear - several complaints are on cars with pivotted type brake shoes. Brakes thump Several 20/25's. A few 25/30HP. No complaints PH.III. Oil leaking on to brakes & pulling to one side. 25/30HP. Due to oil leakage from lower pivot flange. Later cars have stronger flanges. PH.III. Early chassis gave trouble on test due to oil dripping from pivot pin bearing seeping through joints of inner and outer carrier plates G85056/7 and G84639/30. This trouble was overcome by using "Heldite" as a jointing material between the two faces when assembling. Inefficient brakes. Complaints are mainly due to servo inefficiency. Servo jaggers & grabs. | ||
