220 The Autocar, February 10th, 1939 With the “Courtesy Cops” on Location LAST Sunday, in their television programme, the B.B.C. had a bright idea and pictured “courtesy” police at work on the Barnet by-pass. The somewhat formidable gathering of mobile police, including chief inspectors and superintendents in a car as well as the usual motor cycle patrols, resulted in extra careful driving in the neighbourhood. As a result, an example of careless driving had to be staged in the end by Miss Jasmine Bligh, television’s well-known announcer. Such publicity for safe driving is excellent. (Above) A mobile policeman stops a careless driver, who turned out to be—not unexpectedly—Miss Jasmine Bligh, the television announcer. After a gentle rebuke she was allowed to drive on. (Right) About to be “shot” by the Emitron cameras, Superintendent Hill of the traffic branch of Scotland Yard. (Below) A general view of some of the cast on location. The programme was televised at Bignall’s Corner, on the Barnet by-pass. | ||
