"NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I" CHASSIS - HIGH SPEED ENGINE VIBRATIONS. With reference to the high speed engine vibration which had been specially noted on 20-20 and which has now been termed "engine sting" - for identification purposes, and regarding which a conference took place at "W" on the 30th September, - Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, Hx., and CWB being present, it was agreed that these vibrations are the same as have been previously noted and commented on as the high speed retard vibration. After tests of various chassis, it was agreed that these vibrations are only noticeable in any degree under no load, or light load and high engine speed conditions, and that, therefore, for the time being, chassis would be accepted by Sales Department, in which these vibrations were not in any way excessive when the car was run under such load as would require about two-thirds throttle to drive it at approximately 25 m.p.h. on second gear, and 36 to 40 m.p.h. on third gear. It is considered that a general improvement is desirable with regard to these vibrations. The Experimental Department will, therefore, investigate this matter with a view to determining the cause and remedy and the whole matter will be reviewed again in three months time - on 1st December - when, if still considered desirable and possible, the present test will be suitably modified.
