Re Visit to Grasse. Mrs Schley Chassis 60PK This car is a large Landaulette holding 5 to 6 persons in the rear. The country which the car has to traverse is all mountainous rising to some 800 metres. 3rd & 2nd gears are needed according to load. There is no easing up anywhere. The air temp is _°c average. I examined car and found that the magneto was on the late side firing .125 before TDC. full advanced. This was altered to .750. The fan had been altered at Nice, a new high speed fan fitted. This had not accomplished anything - a matter of approx 2° nothing more. The carburettor setting was OK but timing OK pump OK. Engine was very clean and looked after well. Petrol gravity .730 approx. I went up a mountain road with it alone. Water temp being 40°c at the start. We went up on 3rd gear. and at the top the water was just boiling. Ignition was full advanced & throttle full open most of the time. The driver had been used to taking this road with 3/4 advance. | ||
