Re. PHANTOM II "O" SERIES.
NEW TYPE CARBURETTER.

Replying to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}13/H23.12.32.

19-EX. car which ran 10,000 miles in France and which you tested when it returned, was fitted with the same carburetter and air silencer as standard on "O" Series.

We have realised the whole time that with the new type carburetter there is more suction noise. It is mainly for this reason that we have been devoting considerable time to developing carburetter silencers.

Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s. car, 58-GN. has been running about for several months with a similar carburetter and silencer as you have on production. This has been commented upon by Sales as being more noisy than the present standard but it has been accepted by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} that we must not fit a carburetter silencer to the new carburetter or otherwise we shall make it more silent than the present standard car.

At the present time the new carburetter is only being fitted to Continental Type cars, which Sales accept can stand more noise. On the next series of Phantom II's where we go over entirely to the new carburetter, silencers will be fitted.
