From the Rolls-Royce experimental archive: a quarter of a million communications from Rolls-Royce, 1906 to 1960's. Documents from the Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation (SHRMF).
Chassis performance, noting the absence of 'coronation rattles', the effectiveness of the ventilation scheme, and the audibility of helical gear noise.

2. Spring Damped Coupling.

I could not detect any coronation rattles on this chassis.

3. Ventilation scheme.

I understand that with chassis 1731 to which this body was previously fitted and which had the old type of dashboard and engine guards fitted, the heating in the front seats was unbearable. The heating of the floorboards on this run was just noticeable but could not be called unpleasant; the floorboards were warm to the hand and the aluminium pedal plate was almost hot after some second speed running, but the floorboards did not become uncomfortable at any period.

It should be noted we were running with the dashboard ventilators open. The radiator did not boil.

4. Helical Gears.

Although these gears could not be detected under average running conditions from the back or front seats, it was occasionally just possible to pick the gears out above the general engine noises. I should not consider the gears good, and when the engine was raced, gear noises were quite apparent.
