20/25 H.P. TANK ENGINES.

Major Rowcroft has been on the 'phone this afternoon and has raised the following two points:-

PLUG FOR THERMOMETER CONNECTION.

It will be remembered that it was agreed subsequent to the supply of the first three engines that we should not fit our standard thermometer. Major Rowcroft points out that we are sending the engines out with the thermometer plug hole unstopped, and he wishes us to supply Woolwich with dummy plugs to fit the thermometer connection on the engine and to dispatch any further engines fitted with this hole plugged up.

A supply of plugs is urgently required at Woolwich to enable them to go ahead with the installation.

WIRELESS SCREENING.

As we previously informed you, it has been decided that the only modification which is to be made to our present standard screening is to exchange the copper-covered braided wire for the phosphor-bronze covered wire, and the War Office would like us to change over to the phosphor-bronze covered wire as soon as we can.

You pointed out on the telephone that this would necessitate further cost as the phosphor-bronze covered cable is more expensive.

Will D/BP therefore please write in to the Contracts Department informing them at what stage in our present production we can introduce the phosphor-bronze cable and what will be the increase in cost.

With regard to the plug shields, the War Office propose to purchase through us one set of the shields examined by Major Rowcroft at Derby for test on an engine, and after this test has been carried out a decision is to be taken as to whether these shields are to be fitted all round.

It would seem now that this matter is cleared up in a satisfactory manner and that no further design work will be called for.
