- 23 - HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/VS.{J. Vickers}28.9.37. Report on Electrical Units. After 17,000 Miles Test on 32-Ex. Dynamo. This is an experimental machine to R.R.Sch.911. In respect of the experimental features, the unit was in excellent condition and quite came up to expectations. The driving end bearing was found to be slightly loose, while the lubrication cover at that end was broken off and the gauze in the vents damaged. Regulator and Cutout. Lucas L.R.7.T. type unit. Both behaviour during the run and condition were satisfactory, but the unit is to be further modified for reasons of output characteristic. Switchbox. Standard Unit. Flexible on starter P.B. switch carbons had fractured, but the switch was otherwise satisfactory. Modification to flexible is in hand. Headlamps. A certain amount of dust was found to have got inside the lamps and been deposited on the reflectors. The glass in the nearside lamp was broken. Fog Lamp. The glass of this lamp was smashed, but otherwise the unit was considered to be satisfactory. Horns. Outside Horns, Experimental Type W.T.13. - these were considered to be not so powerful as the standard type and will have to be further developed. Under-Bonnet Horns, Experimental Type W.T.22. - these also were considered to be too weak. continued. | ||
