It had been found that the float chamber became partly filled with soapy sediment, when used on the engine. On arrival home, it was found to have been cleaned out, so that the sediment could not be examined. We could not get the sediment to reform by again filling it with petrol. The trouble might be caused by (1) The presence of soap or alkali. (2) The presence of dilute acid. (3) oxidation owing to slight decomposition of alloy & conditions of engine run.
