RV. c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. CDEPT. c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} X 2764 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}8/H30.1.24. re. 40/50 HP. Valve Springs. Further to our report EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}15/H17.1.24, we return herewith two further samples of valve springs broken on test. This is about the fifth we have had during the last fortnight, whereas we had been practically free from valve spring troubles for months. We submit that the breakages appear to be due to faulty material. I also submit that the fact of having these failures on test rather alarm me that we shall have similar failures with these cars when they get into service, and I put it to you that there may possibly be a batch of poor material which has got through, which you may deem it desirable to replace, rather than we should again have this trouble while cars are in customers' hands.
