- 2 - Blk.1/ML.4.8.40. Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} In order to be completely familiar with the manufacture of the barrels by the time the machines are delivered, it is necessary to put the operators into training at once, and the R.O.F., Nottingham, have agreed that the men shall go there. In addition, the Superintendent for the Barrel Shop, (Mr. Clay) has been started, and he has already spent several days at Nottingham, taking full details of all the machines and equipment. In the meanwhile, it will evidently be necessary to find other sources of barrels. Mr. Healey, of the R.O.F., Nottingham, states that the R.O.F., Leeds Factory only makes the larger sizes and is therefore no good; but he mentions other factories making a similar size of gun, namely, the R.O.F., Ratcliffe, and Hick Hargreaves of Bolton. These factories will be contacted. There is a further possibility in Armstrong Whitworth's at Gateshead. 2. GENERAL MACHINED PARTS. B.U.S.M. expect to complete the first 50 sets within 17 weeks. i.e. the end of November. During this time, the planning and tool design can be finished and tools made for the manufacture of the 500 sets, so that at the beginning of December, production of the 500 sets should commence. Production will increase up to approximately 25 sets per week, by the end of March, subject to the necessary machine tools being available as required. If additional machine tools are available immediately and can be installed at the B.U.S.M., production could be increased above the 3 sets per week, before the end of November. A preliminary basic list of machines is attached, which could be put to work immediately, if they are available. - Continued - | ||
