1020. To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} from HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} c. to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}3/VS.{J. Vickers}31.3.37. CADMIUM-NICKEL BEARINGS. During the course of a recent visit to Metallisation Ltd., Dudley, we were informed that in conjunction with the Rover Company experiments were being carried out using cadmium-nickel bearings having the bearing lining deposited by the metal spraying process. The Rover Company have not yet submitted a report on tests which have been carried out, and Metallisation Ltd., are therefore unable to say whether the bearings so far produced have given satisfactory results. If it would be of any interest, however, they are prepared to treat in a similar manner any bearing shells we may care to send them. The method of production is simply to produce a mild steel shell, which is made .010 oversize in the bore, spray with the cadmium-nickel alloy to a depth of .010, and then bore or ream to size in position.
