J-584 D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France. 8/12/30. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From A.B.R. Re CHASSIS 18-G-IV. Since fitting the new brakes the car has done a thousand miles. During yesterday's run the brakes squawked rather badly. When we arrived at Chateauroux we had to increase the tappet clearance on the exhaust valves. After 1250 miles it has been necessary to re-set five exhaust valves, the clearance of which had decreased below .002". Again after a further 1000 miles it has been necessary to increase the clearance of four of the exhaust valves. The car generally has been running well and the worst feature of the engine has been the erratic slow running. I feel inclined to attribute this to the state of the valves. The India Tyres are now running, and compare favourably with the Dunlop Silent Speed as regards silence, and there is no noticeable alteration in the riding of the car. A.B.R. A B Roberts | ||
