40/50 CHASSIS. VALVES.

I am sending you herewith three morevalves shewing the burning effects which have been taken out of customers 40/50 chassis. I am sending all the information attached to them that we have so that you can look it over. After seeing this I would like you to send the valves on to HL. so that he can examine same and tell us if there is anything special in regard to the steel.

We have made arrangements to get a block of cylinders from one car with this defect on an existing valve. There has been some delay in getting hold of these, but we are asking the Repair Department to urge the matter or else to send at once to 'N' a complete set of cylinders with instructions that the first engine that comes in giving this trouble should have the whole block removed and a new set of cylinders replaced, the work to be done on an R.R. policy number with the object of obtaining a set of cylinders and valves shewing the trouble so that we can test same at the earliest possible moment.

I thought that we should have had the sample block of cylinders I arranged for long ago, and think that possibly the above method of dealing with the question will accelerate matters.
