With reference to your CJ/Py2/D2.8.23. I have now had an interview with R.{Sir Henry Royce} re the above, and he has considered the various proposals made, and Mr. Elliott will be reporting fully the details of his criticisms and comments. Mr. Elliott will also be returning to you the Standardisation Sheets which R.{Sir Henry Royce} instructed Mr. Elliott to sign and finish off on his behalf. I hasten, however, to report to you the general action taken by R.{Sir Henry Royce} in reference to the above sheets. No.7. Keyed Tappets. Alteration No.3255/A.{Mr Adams} X2764 R.{Sir Henry Royce} approves and considers some scheme should be standardised and adopted on Derby made chassis in order that the cars may be similar. No.8. Universal Joint. Alteration No.3712/A.{Mr Adams} R.{Sir Henry Royce} approves and instructs similar application on Derby cars in order that the cars may be similar. No.9. Carburetter Float Chamber Stainless Steel Needle Alteration No. 3728/A.{Mr Adams} X2768 R.{Sir Henry Royce} approves and instructs should be adopted at Derby in order that the cars may be similar. He instructs, however, that this proposed needle should be used with the latest proposed form of seating, Piece No. E.17791, similar type as is now being used on the 20-HP chassis, drawing LEC.869. Particulars of this will be sent on to Springfield. No.10. Engine Coupling. Alteration No.3768/A.{Mr Adams}(Springs instead of solid stops. X3435 R.{Sir Henry Royce} does not approve of this. He contends that it is not necessary, and so far we have had no experience of similar fault, so long as the coupling is correctly fitted. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is to test this, and see whether the noise referred to can be produced, and if so whether this method is the best cure. R.{Sir Henry Royce} contends that such knocking as they may have in the drive should be overcome by use of super cushion tyres, as reported by Springfield in their memo. of August 4th. reference Oy2/W/8423.
