Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. C.S. Steadman,
Experimental Dept.

We are very glad indeed that you returned the two samples ov V-Belts that had been tested recently, for we believe that a mishap has occurred, as unfortunately with other tests.

The condition of the belts, with break at one point, and very little wear elsewhere, indicates the belts were stretched on to the pulleys by a tool. This is a common practice with belts of roll or ply construction, because there is sufficient stretch in such belts.

The belt of cord construction does not stretch either at the time of application nor to any appreciable extent in service. If it is stretched into place by a lever, the cords are consequently ruptured. Obviously, the service rendered under test will be very short.

May we send you additional belts for further test? Care should be taken in the application. We believe if you can give personal attention to the application the danger of such failure would be eliminated.

Yours faithfully,
THE GOODYEAR TYRE & RUBBER CO. (GT. BRITAIN) LTD.
