LUBRICATION OF SPRINGS.
--------------------

Referring to C15/C19.12.28. we think you are under a misapprehension in regard to the result of greasing the springs. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}, Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} all agree that with the present type of springs the greasing of the springs however efficiently it is done does not cut out the bad riding effect experienced at approximately 20 miles an hour. This being so, one does not see what advantage is to be obtained by putting in a recommendation for greasing the springs in the manner indicated The Experimental Department with whom I discussed the matter stated definitely that they considered it impracticable to suggest to an owner that he should undo his gaiters and grease his springs in the manner indicated.

The matter of lubricating the spring thoroughly is having attention, but so far as our evidence goes at the moment no amount of lubrication will eliminate the complaint of "poor riding quality" at high speeds on reasonably good roads.
