X8685 I had arranged that if the relay advance was not yet reliable, to use hand control of both, using ungoverned battery, and Watford sleeve magneto. I consider this best under the circumstances because the Scintilla is an odd and foreign magneto - for spares etc - and not satisfactory for slow speeds and starting. With the extra trouble of hand control all can be done that is possible with auto control. RELAY ADVANCE. Instead of increasing the clearance abnormally for dirt I think we should economise the oil leakage and use finer strainer. Use a brass valve (inner piston) if found more reliable. I do not think there is any need for thick oil in the engine or gearbox. We want something with good lubricating properties, and body, when hot. R.{Sir Henry Royce} [Signature] | ||
