To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} -2- E1/35/2/21 Contd. been knocked out. The dumb iron end should be drop forged to the design shewn, and bolted and rivetted to the frame, after being brazed to the cross tube. Referring now to the attachment of the springs to the axle, Mr. Royce wishes to use the form of "U" bolt shewn, which is a great improvement on the old style of fitting, as the stress effects in the bend are a known quantity. These "U" bolts can be made from good material since round bar is employed instead of a drop forging. The semi-circular saddle pieces can be drop forged and machined in pairs.
